I have deep roots in Irish and Scottish ancestry. The Gaelic and Celtic Cultures have fascinated me since I was young.
I write this on the Winter Solstice of 2020.
Cailleach:
The goddess of winter, from Scottish, Irish and Manx Gaelic Mythology.
She is a creator, weather and ancestor deity.
The word mean "old woman" or hag.
She is associated with landscapes, mountains and hills as well as collecting firewood.
Legend says her staff freezes the ground, she fights spring and has a destructive side.
The Winter Solstice has a variety of rituals and ceremonious activities associated with it.
A simple ritual is to wear the colour blue, to bring truth and honesty out. You can also place a yellow cloth on your altar to represent the sun. By placing a blue candle on your altar you can acknowledge the Goddess of winter and burn the candle to bring peace and warmth to you and your loved ones.
